Hi! I’m Will Levin, the head Fitness Coach at Older Guys Fitness. I’m 61 years young and in great shape. How did my fitness journey start? Well, when I was 4 years old my mom would drop me off at my grandmom’s house while my mom went to work. At grandmom’s I used to watch this strong man on television showing viewers different home-based exercises. I thought he was so awesome and I wanted to be strong like him. I did not know it then, but I was watching the Jack Lalanne Show in about 1968. A few years later, I requested a weight set for my 7th birthday: you may remember the wobbly bench press and the purple plastic disks filled with sand? Yep, there I was at age 7 pumping iron. It was 1970.

As I got older I played sandlot football, basketball and ice hockey almost on a daily basis with my childhood friends, I went on to become a high school and college athlete where the workouts were very intensive: wind sprints, jogging around the field, work in the weight room and so on. I was in the best physical condition of my life with a resting heart rate of 47 and 6% body fat. No joke.

Those days did not last. I worked in and office for most of my adult life which meant spending way to many hours at a desk. Though my natural adult body weight is 195, I ballooned up to 245 and couldn’t fit into my clothes anymore. It sucked and sucked bad. So there I was, in middle age, and 50 pound overweight. On top of that, I had host of health problems: from low back pain to hypertension and everything in between. Being obese and in poor health was no way to live.

So I decided (I needed) to make some positive changes. Being 50 pounds overweight was daunting because I wanted results as fast as possible (don’t we all?). I decided to become and expert in fitness and nutrition, earning a Fitness Coach Certification with the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA).

I thought long and hard to create fitness and nutrition program for myself. And then I went to work in the gym and with my diet. I lost the 50 pounds in 8 months while gaining muscle mass. And my health problems disappeared or were greatly reduced.

Look, I can say I am a certified Fitness Coach with ISSA, which is true and important. But the greater truth is that I study fitness and nutrition comprehensively. Like my hero, Jack Lalanne, I live and breath fitness and nutrition. It’s just what I do and love. What else might make me different? I’m the 7 year old kid pumping iron with his first weight set in 1970.

BTW, the cute kid up there is not me–it’s just a GIF that resembles me, though his barbell is much nicer than mine 1970. I’m sure you knew that.

My fitness theory for men over 40 is a combination of proven principles of fat loss and muscle gain, and other concepts that I have used and that I know work for their intended goal. Unlike other personal trainers, I advocate HIIT training which is a proven way to burn fat. I implement HIIT training into my own exercise regimen, usually using a jump rope, but it varies. And a great thing about HIIT is that there are so many ways to do a a HIIT workout.

I also advocate intermittent fasting, which is a proven method for burning fat. Intermittent fasting involves eating at a certain period during the day and not eating for a certain period. For example, the 16/8 method has you eating only during 8 hours of the day and fasting for the other 16. During the 16 hour fasting period your body is burning fat for its energy, resulting in fat loss.

So when you combine my custom exercise program and diet plan with HIIT training and intermittent fasting you have a fitness theory and program that guarantees you WILL achieve your fitness goals. I did it and so can you.
